Embrace Mercury Retrograde and its teachings

Mercury Retrograde is here and it’s reputation precedes itself even for those not spiritually inclined.  This time becomes the scapegoat for every tech issue, miscommunication and disgruntled mood.  Yet, Mercury retrograde can have positive effects if learn to release attempting to control everything and see what opportunities it also brings us.

Positive lessons from Mercury

1). Improved communication:

In general, people tend to become lazy about communication and expect others to read their mind.  “If they truly love me, they should know what I mean and what I want without me telling them”.  That’s a bit unfair.  As an overall rule, we tend to speak in generalities which leaves a lot to interpretation and reading between the lines. This can in turn create miscommunicated messages, intentions and emotional reactions.  Mercury calls us out on this poor habit.  It wants us to stop and think about what we really want to say and how to say it in a constructive and positive way.

2). Retrospection:

Mercury retrograde is our time to start turning inward and reflecting on ourselves: our goals in life, relationships, business, habits, etc..  Stepping away from the heady influence of online influencers, social media, people’s opinions and listening in quiet to our inner voice.  Review what is no longer working for us and how we can do it different.

3) Releasing control.

There are thousands of ways we all attempt to create control in our lives and often times we don’t even recognize that we are doing it and that our reactions are due to having a lack of control.  Mercury retrograde reminds us that events and people can’t truly be controlled.  We can only learn to control ourselves and even then, we need to truly be in tune with who we really are.  Accepting our shadow and light.  Accepting our flaws and mistakes not as things that point out that we are broken or less than, but as a natural part of being human.  When Mercury retrograde has various things in our lives not going according to plan, it’s not cause us harm, but rather to recognize that we never truly had control to begin with and that timing isn’t always ours to dictate either.  By letting go of control, we allow the Universe and those effected by us, to process and set into motion in a manner that is natural, rather than forced.  Often our own expectations of outcomes is to our own detriment.

By looking past the disruptions that Mercury retrograde may bring us, we can see the lessons it is attempting to bring to our attention.  It is essentially a massive call to recognize where we are struggling in our lives but are ignoring.  Take a step back and honestly look at what it may be trying to teach you rather than seeing this time as a massive interference in your life.  Give Mercury Retrograde some love. Not only because it could probably use a hug, but because it is trying to teach you.
